June is the month of Pride, celebrating the LGBTQ community, with parades and parties all over the world. Each city has their pride parade on a different week during June, here in LA it's Sunday, June 10 and in New York it's Sunday, June 24. It's a festive and welcoming day for all. Kylie Minogue will be headlining the New York Pride while Tove Lo will be heading up LA's Pride event.
Pride stands for the positive stance against discrimination and violence towards lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transsexual people. It promotes their self-affirmation, dignity, equal rights, increases their visibility as a social group, builds community, and celebrates sexual diversity and gender variance. Pride month was designated in June after lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning persons rioted following a 1969 police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar at 43 Christopher Street, in New York City. This riot and subsequent protests and rioting were the watershed moments and the impetus for organizing LGBT pride marches on a much larger public scale. LA's parade started soon after in 1970 and takes in the city of West Hollywood every year.
In celebration of Pride month, I've curated an assortment of some of my favorite rainbow accessories and clothing. During the month of June, a portion of proceeds for all my rainbow collection of jewelry will benefit Human Rights Campaign. Dating back to 1980, The HRC is the largest LGBT civil rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization in the United States. As a business owner, I’m proud to stand with HRC in support of the #LGBTQ community. Businesses should be a welcoming place and #OpenToAll.
